Editing pages
The Editor
PageTree pages are managed in the October CMS Editor: a navigator on the left, and one tab per open page on the right.
Open the Editor
Click Block Pages in the main back-office navigation. This label can be changed in the settings. The Manage block pages permission is required.
The navigator
The left column contains the Block Pages section. Under the Pages node, pages are sorted by title and grouped by URL level:
- the
/blog/newspage appears under the/blogpage; - if no page exists for
/blog, a blog folder is shown in its place; - an inactive page is shown with a greyed-out icon;
- an unpublished page, or one whose publication is scheduled, is flagged on the right by an icon (crossed-out eye or clock); hover it to read “This page is not published” or “Publication scheduled on …”. See Publishing.
The section menu offers Refresh (reload the list) and Create → New Page. Click a page to open it in a tab. You can open several pages at once.
Superusers also see a Custom blocks section. See Custom blocks.
Create a page
- In the Block Pages section, click Create, then New Page.
- Type the title. A URL is suggested from the title.
- Choose a layout, add blocks, then save.
The document header
At the top of the tab, the header holds the main information of the page:
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Title | Title of the page, also used as the default meta title. |
| URL | Address of the page on the website. It matches the page slug. |
| Layout | Theme layout used by the preview and by the website. The list can be filtered with the keyboard. |
| Active | An inactive page is not served on the website. |
The toolbar
| Button | Action |
|---|---|
| Save | Saves the page. |
| History | Lists the versions of the page blocks, to preview, restore or name one. Available once the page is saved. See Version history. |
| Open page | Opens the page URL on the website, in a new tab. Available once the page is saved. |
| SEO | Opens a dialog with the SEO fields. See SEO. |
| Scheduling | Opens a dialog with the Published and Publication Date fields. See Publishing. |
| Trash can | Deletes the page. |
In the SEO and Scheduling dialogs, click Apply to return to the page. The values are saved with the page, on the next Save.
The components area
The body of the tab is split in two:
- on the left, the block list of the page and its toolbar (Add Component, Delete Component, copy, paste);
- on the right, the preview of the page in its layout.
Drag the divider to change the width of both areas. Working with blocks is covered in Working with blocks, the preview in Preview.
Save
Click Save or use the keyboard shortcut. A message confirms the save. If a field is invalid, the error is shown and the page is not saved.
Very long pages can exceed the request size accepted by the web server (413 error). See Troubleshooting.
