Troubleshooting
The most common issues and how to solve them.
Installing or updating fails (HTTP 403, plugin not found)
Invalid credentials (HTTP 403): theauth.jsonfile is missing on the server, or the project license is no longer active. Check the project in your octobercms.com account, then bind the website again withphp artisan project:set <license key>.- PageTree is not installed by
project:sync: it is not in the project bound to the website. Check that it was purchased for this project, or bind the website to the right project.
A page returns a 404 error
Check, in this order, that:
- the page is Active (page header);
- it is Published (Scheduling dialog);
- its Publication Date is empty or past;
- the requested address matches the page URL exactly (with RainLab.Translate, the URL of the displayed language).
See the visibility rule.
A component's CSS or JS is missing
The page layout must contain {% styles %} and {% scripts %}. See Theme integration.
The preview is empty
- Check that the selected layout renders correctly on its own, on a regular CMS page.
- Look at the log: Settings → Event Log in the back-office, or the
storage/logs/system.logfile.
The preview window does not open
The browser blocked the pop-up window. Allow pop-up windows for the back-office site, then click Open the preview in a window again.
Saving a large page fails (413 error)
The request exceeds the size accepted by the web server. Increase client_max_body_size in the Nginx configuration, for example in the server block of your site:
client_max_body_size 150M;
Check the configuration with sudo nginx -t, then reload Nginx. The plugin's NGINX_413_SOLUTION.md file also describes the related PHP settings.
Pasting blocks does not work
Copy and paste goes through the browser clipboard. If the message "Unable to access clipboard" appears, allow clipboard access for the back-office site.
A custom block does not appear in the library
- Check that it is Active (Settings tab of the block).
- Close and reopen the page tabs that are already open: the block list is loaded when the tab opens.
A custom block renders nothing
The template probably has a runtime error. A short message appears in the preview and the error is written to the system log with the block code. An unreadable data source, on the other hand, gives an empty list and a line in the log.
